Acer ICONIA Tablet PC
Acer today announced a dual-touchscreen Windows 7 tablet dubbed ICONIA. It could be the ultimate envy producing, gesture recognizing, all-point touch tablet devised yet. Does the concept look familiar? It's extremely reminiscent of the Microsoft dual-screen Courier that caused a frenzy last fall.
Microsoft supposedly killed the tablet and then rumors surfaced again this summer that the Courier might come to life after all. Acer's press materials carefully credits Intel for help in developing. But note that the device runs Windows 7. Today Acer also announced two Android tablets, 7-inch and 10.1-inch, and a 4.8-inch screen Android smartphone (to do battle with the Dell 5-inch Streak).
But the ICONIA is far-and-away the coolest device of Acer's massive new product line. Instead of a start button, it features the "Acer Ring" which will appear "by placing five fingers on the screen and making a grab gesture." From the Ring you can start applications or launch a virtual keyboard among other tasks.
The "touchbook" comes equipped with a bunch of Acer developed applications including the TouchBrowser, TouchPhoto, TouchMusic, TouchVideo each enhanced with the gesture library. Likewise it includes the apps SocialJogger, My Journal and Scrapbook.
More apps will almost certainly come because Acer also today launched its own apps store, alive, and its own media streaming/synching service, Clear.fi.
Acer didn't mention the price or release date, except to confirm that it too will be available by Q1 2011. I'll update this post when I confirm that information.
Here are the full hardware specs on the ICONIA from Acer. I'm glad I haven't bought a tablet yet. Can't wait to read the reviews on this puppy to see if it performs as great as it looks.

Microsoft Windows 7 Phones
Microsoft Bring more Windows 7 Phones
'microsoft' working hard on stocking the shelves considering the Windows phone 7.
because you might have heard, the device have been sold out within only two days of its recognized release. The sales has been risen beyond expectations even though microsoft thought the discharge was too late than the already established giants "Android" plus the "ipones".
AT&T and T-Mobile will be the only carriers that service windows phone 7 currently. A Microsoft spokesman told ZDnet "As may be the case with the launch on the new product, initial supplies are tight. We understand some customers are disappointed to master their local stores are already out of stock. We hear their concerns and are working diligently with our partners to bring more phones to stores inside coming weeks".
Microsoft really needs an alternative plan to stock correctly so the customers aren't getting dissappointed as a result of non availability. This may be the only way they may take on head to head with all the already established competitors.

Is It Microsoft Illegally MIssion? Or just Something Else?
Microsoft Illegally Vandalizes Mission
The giant software company -- or at least, an advertiser representing it -- has been spraying advertisements in front of peoples' homes and businesses for its new "Windows 7" phone. The ads don't come up with water. They've been doing the same thing in New York, using the graffiti to advertise Windows-branded concerts by Katy Perry and Maroon 5.
The vandalism includes a URL where people can get free tickets to the concerts if they click "Like" on Microsoft's Facebook page -- in essence, putting themselves on Microsoft's mailing list.
It may be attention-getting, but it's also illegal. The Department of Public Works is quite firm on that point: if if doesn't quickly, easily, and completely wash away, it's against the law.
The city said that it would ask the company to remove the ads, and then bill them for any cleanup costs.
Microsoft has run afoul of graffitti laws in the past. In 2002, New York went after the company for gluing ads to city infrastructure. Similarly, San Francisco attacked Zynga for throwing ads resembling fake dollar bills all over the city.
There's a hint of irony to Microsoft's use of sidewalk ads. You're most likely to see the ad if you're looking down at your phone, but the company's new ad campaign has made fun of people who look at their phones. Yes, really.
