2010 American Music Awards: Meet the Hosts

Meet the hosts of tonight’s big 2010 American Music Awards.

This year the 2010 American Music Awards (AMA) will continue with the setup they used last year which is to have no individual host for the show. Instead of having a host who would normally open the show with a monologue and then close the show at the end of the night, they will have live performances fill those spots.

Rihanna will open the show doing a song that the producers say nobody has ever heard her sing live. Closing the show will be New Kids on the Block performing with the Backstreet Boys. In between they will sandwich in 14 more live performances and nine awards. Each award will have a celebrity presenter or presenters and each live performance will be introduced by a different celebrity.

Producer Larry Klein said that he had been encouraging the artists to come up with unique themes for their shows and that almost anything goes. Pink (who recently announced she is pregnant) will be surrounded by skate rams and acrobats. Another artist will appear in an industrial set with moving boxes and elevators.

Eminem and country artists Lady Antebellum lead the nominations with five each. Justin Bieber is up for four awards while Katy Perry and Ke$ha each have three nominations. The nominees are determined by radio play and record sales. The fans vote for the winners.

By not having a host they can streamline the show. They will not need to come up with time for the host to tell their jokes that will most likely be lame and instead they can get to what the fans what which is to see the live performances and see who wins the awards. It should be a music packed night full of celebrities and great live performances.
