Fashion trends were being set by celebrities, and common people just copied them. It was a period of change politically with Cold War coming to an end and the Iron Curtain was crumbling. He won several Grammies and even the controversy in his personal life did not fade away his iconic status. His albums, when released, always broke all sales records, a feat that has not been copied until now.

Tom Cruise: With his cute-boy looks, Tom Cruise captured the hearts of female audience world over. However, his looks did not deflect any attention from his acting abilities. Having own the Golden Award and Academy nomination several times, Cruise proved his acting ability by acting in a wide genre of movies.
Martina Navratilova: The world tennis saw the rise of an iconic tennis player Martina Navratilova. Prior to the demonstration of Martina's athletic prowess, tennis courts had not witnessed such determination and brilliance. She won several Grand Slams and was the number one ranked player in the world for quite some time. Her on-court rivalry with Chris Evert was legendary.
